1. Most computer’s come out of the box with virus protection installed on it and most virus scanners find and eliminate most spyware as well as most viruses.
2. Registry corruption has become so widespread in recent years, it is almost a  plaque.  This being the case I would certainly get a free registry scan if I were unsure what was making my computer slow.

It is important to know there are three different ways a computer can become slow:

1. There is some internal problem inside the computer, such as a  bad bank of RAM.
2. There is something mis-configured, such as the virtual memory has ben turned off.
3. The Windows operating system has internal problems.

Two of these three problems could be the result of corruption in the registry.  The second could be caused by registry corruption because most times it is the Windows operating system that keeps such things as virtual memory tuned to the best possible setting.  So, if registry corruption is causing Windows to misfire when making its calculations, the virtual memory may become mis-configured.

The number three way a computer can be become slow is a very popular one.  Corruption builds up in a Windows operating system’s registry for many reasons these days and there are many more avenues through which corruption can gather in a Windows registry than there were, even just a few years ago. 

Corruption itself gives Windows many more obstacles it most sort through when it is performing its operation.  This of course will make a PC appear slow as Windows stumbles around making unnecessary and counterproductive calculations. 

The wise thing to do is to keep the registry free of corruption and the way to this is to make use of a registry cleaner.  With registry corruption out of the way, Windows can perform its operations unimpeded and therefor quickly.  Yes, there are certain internals that can happen to the computer hardware but these are relatively rare.  Most internal problems will shut a computer down altogether.
