A person called me up to tell me that her computer is running really slow. The first thing I asked her was if she had a virus scanner installed on her computer and if she had been using it.

She said she was protected against viruses. Also, the virus program she said she was using would protect her computer against the most malicious types of spyware. This is important because spyware will also slow down computer speed.

So, I told her where to get a free registry scan. Unbelievably she said her friend (a customer of mine) had recommended a registry scan with my personal favorite registry scanner and it turned up 838 incidents of registry corruption. However, she didn’t purchase the license to repair the registry corruption because it was too expensive.

Actually, I don’t know the end of the story but I do know this: registry corruption causes more computer speed problems than anything else I have ever seen and I have been in the computer repair business a long time. I also know registry cleaners just aren’t that expensive.

Lastly, I know registry corruption, if left to build for a long period, has the ability to cripple a computer to the point the hard drive will need to be reformatted and I’ve seen it happen.

Using a good registry cleaner won’t assure you the computer will never have a big problem, but geez! Why hurry a catastrophic failure along? Then again, why put up with a really slow computer when you know a registry cleaning will make it fast again? I have no idea!

I told her my recommendation would be to buy the license and get the registry cleaned. Then, I cordially said goodbye.

If I was short of money and had registry corruption but I couldn’t afford a registry cleaner, I would not use the computer until I could get the registry cleaned. Registry corruption breeds more registry corruption. So, using this computer without cleaning its registry will eventually put it flat on its back for the count of ten!
